Some beautiful bags made on the Introduction to the sewing machine day workshop.

Fiona Douglas taught an Introduction to the Sewing Machine - day workshop -  last weekend and this is what two of the group made - very good for such complete beginners who were so nervous about learning to sew!

COURSE INFO: 
In this workshop you will learn how to make the Longstitch with Linkstitch book form. This 15th century binding with leather cover makes a wonderful journal, sketchbook, scrapbook or guest book. 
You will have the opportunity to make your book individual and unique and after this day workshop you will never need to buy a notebook or sketchbook again!

Portrait Drawing Day workshop on Saturday November 15th

Val Gilman, BA Fine Art, who is the granddaughter of the  esteemed Harold Gilman of the Campden Town Group  is teaching a one day workshop on portraits in November. 

Val currently has her work exhibited at Southampton City Gallery. 

We are very pleased to be able to offer a one day course on portraiture from Val. 

The workshop will explore a wide range of mediums and techniques and  a model will be provided.

Natural Plant dyeing day workshop this Saturday



Course info: An inspiring practical workshop. Learn how to dye yarn with natural plant dyes using six different dyes and indigo. We will produce a great variety of beautiful colours. You will take a set of colours home for reference. Small friendly group.

Course info: Using a selection of cottons and natural fibre fabric and paper we will take inspiration from all around us to colour and make marks.. There will be no right and wrong and you will be free to bind, stitch, wrap and wash with colour to your heart’s content.
Over the six weeks you will learn to print on, use resist techniques with fabric and paper, practice various ways of transferring images and using stitch, layer and work your fabrics into a collaged art quilt. No experience needed. Small friendly classes!

Date:  Thursday evenings starting Sept 18th for six weeks
Time:  7.00 – 9.00pm
Cost:  £60 for six 2 hour sessions. Small charge for dyes.

What you need to bring:  Sewing box, scissors, mat & roller cutter, beads, buttons, threads, lace, embellishments, selection of fabrics, white cotton sheet for dying, sewing machine if you have one.

Patchwork &   Quilting


Course info: Get started with Patchwork, fabric piecing and quilting. Learn all you need to complete your project. Course covers: Colour choices and Design elements, Simple patterns for quilt blocks, Stash buster ideas, Faux chenille, Quilting techniques, Finishing off with flair. Suitable for all levels.

Date: Friday 12th September for six weeks
Time: 10.00 -12.00

INTRODUCTION TO THE SEWING MACHINE



Course Info:


Our aim is that by the end of the day you will feel comfortable

threading a sewing machine, sewing some of the basic stitches and will

go home with a beautiful bag you have made yourself!

We will cover:

Sewing Machine: How a sewing machine works, threading the machine

& winding the bobbin, adjusting the tension, stitch length/stitch width

Sewing: Straight lines/corners, curves, zigzag stitch, decorative

stitches

Making a shopping bag: Placing pattern pieces/straight grain, cutting

out pattern pieces, constructing the bag

Time: 10am-3pm

Beginers Dressmaking now starting Tuesday October 7th.

BEGINNERS  DRESSMAKING

Course Info:


Learn to make a simple dress or top using a paper pattern.

We will cover measurements & sizes, choosing a pattern, choosing fabric,

sewing darts, gathers & pleats, inserting a zip, setting in a sleeve, neatening

seams & hems.

You do not need to have had much sewing experience, but you do need to be

able to thread the machine and sew a (reasonably!) straight seam.

Equipment and sewing machines are provided, but you will need to buy a

pattern, fabric and zip.

Date: Now starting Tuesday 7th October for eight weeks

Time: 7-9pm

Cost: £80

Book Binding workshop with Laura Joy

In this workshop, you will learn how to make 3 book forms - the concertina book, the pamphlet book and the Japanese stab-stitch binding.
These books make perfect gifts and work well as photo/ keepsake albums, and can also be a great way of binding together prints or drawings.
